Rope series life-drawings

This work is part of my personal collection and is not available. If you would like me to make more like it, let me know in the comments or contact me.

I conceived of a set of figures in 2009 (later abandoned) that would include a female figure pulling a rope with all her weight. It ended up being a rather difficult sequence of movements, and I was hitting a wall with working from imagination: so I tied an extension cord around an old block of marble that was sitting in my studio at the time and did these rather quick studies from life.

There’s something I admire about the strong lighting and graphic quality of these that has made me keep them, and has been motivating me to again make drawing part of my working process, at least in terms of understanding gesture and proportion.
